species           Pnigomantis medioconstricta (Westwood, 1889)
Synonymous  Sphodropoda medioconstricta Westwood, 1889
Endemic to     Island of Flores, Indonesia
This is a special species of mantis found only in islands east of Java. The special pronotum
shape like violin earned this species a common name of double shield mantis.
Similar to most Southeast Asian species, this species required warm and extra humid
condition to thrive.  The unique pronotum shape only become visible after L5.
Adult female
Adult male
It is amazing how fast they grow with plenty of food and heat.  Molting might be problem if
humidity and food variety are unavailable. Otherwise a fairly easy species to keep and
breed. One of my favorite species.
Adult male just few hours after molting - note the pale wing color
Adult male few days after molting - note the darker wing color
